Iron sights and 12" steel at 200 yards. Not bad at all!

I was happy to hit the clay pigeons at 200 yards but it took a few shots. I don't expect to do it regularly. The hit/miss ratio is not kind to the ammo supply.

The issue of penetration with the little 30 carbine can certainly be put to rest. At 130 yards a Remington soft point left a silver dollar size exit wound on a midsize Texas whitetail. It was a front quartering shot that took out a rib along the way..
I need to join him out there with my carbine and look for some piggies.

Feets, I have the same question about hogs. With the ferral pig problem we have here in Texas, I think alot of people are going to find the M-1 carbine the perfect pig gun. I had a friend who went deer hunting with his bolt rifle (nothin') and ended up getting a couple of hogs. His chief complaint was that he could not work the bolt fast enough to get more shots off as the hogs ran across the gully. Hence, I wonder what the carbine would do to a group of hogs.

With the correct ammunition like Speer Gold Dot, Federal Power-Shok, or the pricey Corbon DPX it makes a great piggie stomper. The FMJ stuff will obviously do a pig in, but it may not do enough damage for a humane kill.
For effective hunting you must violate the Hague Convention.
I load my own with a few different hunting type bullets.
