    Shooting tube

Years ago when I was with the 50RCU under the wing of the the 13th Field Engineers based at the now demolished Victoria Park Barracks in Perth we had a tube firing range setup for air rifles.

It was from memory 15m long with a tube diameter of 0.5m mounted on the back of a 6x4 trailer. The tubes used to slide back into each other for transport. taken around other units on camps and on displays until the nasty governemtn said cadets shouldnt have war like things to play wth. (Back in the day when we were issued a L1A1 with BFA and 300 rounds for a weekend camp as a 14 year old to see if we could harrass the recruit plantoon on their first camp experience)

We also did shooting inside the main muster hall with air rifles and .22 conv SLR's.
The engineers obtained some old mining belt about 5" thick and hung them up on a metal frame at one end of the hall with overlapping belts. The belts stopped all the .22 rounds no dramas and we never punched through the belts into the walls. Back then the neighbours didnt complain about the noise either considering we were next to a freeway and we had our own regimental band practicing all night.
