New guy saying Hi with a Garand bolt question
Hello. Newbie here, hopefully my dumb questions will be low and my helpfulness high. Thanks for the great site, and thanks for all the knowledgeable people and the helpful info they post. So I have been drowning myself in info on the M1 Garand for about a month now and have a question about a bolt and its numbers.
I found the bolt heat treat sticky and was wondering if this marking is all there is supposed to be, or is there some numbers on the bottom of the bolt?
D28287-1 W.R.A. Obviously a Winchester bolt, but no extra stuff like in the sticky.
It sure has been cool getting into the history of this weapon.
Thanks for any info you can help with.

This will work for another new guy also. I think I have a mostly complete WRA 1943 Garand. I had not field stripped one of these since ITR back in 1967. I am looking at some reference books to buy but meanwhile have some similar questions. A good place to start would be the bolt..................

Springfield made bolts are marked with the drawing number and with the steel heat lot number. Winchester made bolts are only marked with the drawing number (e.g., D28287-1 W.R.A).

Bolts with the revision 1 drawing number often have a letter or number on the bottom - I do not think it is a heat lot code as that is stamped on top. Winchester bolts without the bottom hole are early production, there are four different types of Winchester bolts
