I they took took a bubbed rifle to begin with and put on a .308 win barrel, it would be a fun rifle, but to chop a nice winchester to make that...SAD.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. I was watching an on-line auction yesterday and this one came up

    30.06 Eddystone with a 22" barrel.

Interesting, but not sure of what the reasoning is behind it.

Once again, I reckon that is simply making use of a barrel with a ruined muzzle.

    Perhaps, but again..to what end?

To cut the end off the regular length barrel and then mount the original front sight would require machining new sight cuts in the barrel. Not to mention the work required to cut and modify the stock and handguard to accept the upper band/bayo lug.
