I was born and raised here in the State
Only time I left was to go to Colorado and then Vietnam. I've traveled all over the states that everyone says are so great, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Wash Oregon, Wyoming, I always was happy to get home. There is a combination of great weather and scenery in this area that you only find in a few places. Ketcham, Idaho was the closest place. There is no ocean there. I can be at the ocean in 30 minutes, the redwoods in 15 minutes, San Francisco in an hour, skiing in two and a half hours, and and two hours drive north and I am in total pristine forest with no people, no towns, nothing clear to Oregon. We have the best food and wine in the country. The bad part is that we have a bunch of well to do liberals here too and the place has been ruined by illegal Mexicans. The cops have turned into jerks because of all of the rapes, DUIs, gang stuff by our "people who do the jobs we don't want to do". There are no more of these jobs, so now they just sit on their collective butts and feed off a system that is permeated with workers just like them, who not only want to give them everything, they chase them down to give it away. It is sad to see how much they have ruined this state. The cities become third world slums just as sure as the passing of time. These folks may mow your lawn or paint your house but they sure as hell won't mow their own or do anything for that matter. It is estimated in this county that 38% of drivers have no license or insurance. They have these drunk stops and will bag 2 people for being DUI and 30-35 with no license or insurance. The cops impound their cars and split the fees with the city. It has become a giant game of GOTCHA. Maybe I should move to Idaho?

Ah Dave, we can't impound the cars anymore for CVC 12500. The California SC just made that ruling. The reason? Most of the DUI check points that popped the 12500 drivers were illegal aliens, hence, we are picking on the illegals. Now the good part of this is that only applies to impounding vehicles of 12500 drivers at DUI check points not a regular car stop with PC. The one time the cops let the 12500 driver free and they crash and kill someone that rulling will be looked at closely
The job of a cop in Kaliforniev is a very tough one.

I much prefer southern Oregon to California, but it is a logistical problem. I have a daughter and Grandson in Medford OR, a daughter in Sacramento who is pregnant, and a son and grand daughter in Temecula on So-Cal. Grass Valley/Colfax area in mountains and in the middle, and is still a great area. Also, I still need to work to supplement my retirement for at least 3-5 years until I pull the pin and collect Social Scurity. Way my work in Sacramento than in Southern oregon. We do have a retirement home in Coos Bay OR (rented out). When the grandkids get older and scatter, I imagine we will end up there.

Thanks Bill, I should have known
The Kalifornia SC is the best friend the illegals have, and a good reason why the state's a mess. Around here the DUI stop has turned into a thriving business. The city of Petaluma sets the pace. They split impounds and towing 50/50 with the cops. They do them so often and make so much money that the cops bought a $400K Winnebago so they can have coffee and donuts on site. It is called a "mobile headquarters " or some name like that. It really is, the cops at war with the public in this case. I personally think it is a violation of our rights against illegal search and seizure, but because the DUI thing is so provocative, the court just lets it happen. They have a drug sniffing dog smelling up the area while the gestapo asks for your papers and what you are doing and where you are going. They have turned the process into a huge revenue machine while they play gotcha with some dope who had an extra half glass of chardonnay with dinner.

I got ran over by a drunk illegal alien and I still pay for it in the injuries I sustained. Sal Osario Morales is dead and that is some conselation to what my issues are so I think DUI check points are a great thing. Just think, if Sal would have been popped at a check, I wouldn't have a jacked up back and Sal might just be alive.

Problem is that Sal (if he were alive) is still driving drunk and all of his buddies are too. They are still causing the same mayhem but we are under the thumb because of it. I say go after Sal and leave the others alone. I value my rights just a whole lot more than Sal. Condensed: the same stuff is going on and we all pay the freight, that is wrong. Punishing everyone for the actions of a few is not what this country was founded on, but that is what it has become. Sorry about what happened to you and I totally understand your position.
