Rear Sight Removal Tool with or without part number

According to the M1 / M2 Carbine manual, the rear sight removal tool has the part or drawing number of 41-T-3016-125. My question is should the USGI tool have this number stamped on it? A very good friend tells me that it should not; however another said it does. I am aware of the German copy having "MATRA" and a very different part number. What is ground truth on this tool? Some with the 41 part number, some without, all with, all without?

Just did a quick search.
Found a thread on Jouster, where a member named Orlando talks about having one at one time. No mention of markings. Did state it may be worth $400 + or -.
I'm sure someone will be able to help you.
Mr. Ricca hasn't been on in a while, but odds are he may know.

Thank you, Charlie. I agree that there are certainly better newly minted rear sight removal tools out there. The original (and its copies) has a nasty habit of leaving a mark on top of the receiver where the pin rests (the pin that holds the tool over the sight). Guess this question is somewhat esoteric.

The one I have is marked, but so lightly it would be easy to miss it. The marking is electro penciled, and it appears they had the pen turned down to make the small markings. With the light just right you can read all the markings, but in my photo you can read only the 41 and 125.

Thanks, Johnny. I was able to swap the German "copy" back and got one without no part number or other markings with patina to prove it's age. It had a natural finish like yours (the German version was black -- mag parked?). I believe that a true USGI rear sight removal tool will not be marked by machine stamping. I think the use of an electric pencil is consistent with that assessment being likely done by hand by an armorer. Congratulations on your original tool!

After viewing the Northridge offering (thank you Charlie), I thought I would post my USGI rear sight removal tool. The first shows the natural finish and the part number written in ink (taken in natural light). Also note the black paint used where the pin was inserted. The others (taken under florescent light) are of the same tool showing different angles. Again the black paint was used where a wedge was inserted after machining the grove for the dove tailed "punch" that goes inside the receiver's rear sight dove tail mount. The one end view shows the machining.

This photograph is of a USGI front sight removal tool still in the wrap (albeit part of it) showing the stamped part number. I thought it would be interesting with regard to the Northridge offering since it looks much like the one they offer. It is obviously different from the WWII rear sight removal tool by at least finish and stamped part number. I do not know the vintage.
