Value Range On WRA Springtube 1,030,xxx
A very good friend and fellow member here has asked me about a WRA he's come across.
I'll include a E-mail he passed to me with his description.
Now Please Note, Most of my best carbines have come from him. Kinda guy who doesn't get real excited about much. As he would say "A pretty darn nice rifle" is usually a diamond to me when I get it. He's not much for pictures, but I'll try to get him to take a few. I'd add that I trust him 100%. He's been around the block. His passion falls in the SG, S'G', IP carbines and all variations of. I'd take the pictures...... But he's 3 time zones from me.
I know this is a bit vague, so just looking for Ballpark figures from members from all over. I'll contact him in the next few days for a parts breakdown.
Anyway, here's what he passed along to me.
Hi Charlie,
Got a question about a carbine that I recently came across. I need to know the approximate value of this one before I decide what to do with it. Its a Winchester, early spring tube type, ser #
1030xxx. Its in a nice type 1 stock with a good cartouche, no rebuild marks, no import marks, ect. I stripped it all the way down and every part is correct according to Reisch's book. Even the trigger housing pin w/ the wire spring and the cone shape extractor plunger. At least I think the extractor plunger is cone shape as I can't see a lip on it. Didn't take it out as I didn't want to take a chance on losing it. The gun looks to be completely original, never rebuilt, restored, ect.
As you know, I'm not a winchester collector but even so, this is a pretty nice carbine, especially in its present condition. Its has no damage, no rust, no repark, just nice.
I'm debating whether to keep it or sell it. Any idea of what it would be worth?
Thanks,
Appreciate Your Time,
Charlie-painter777

$2000 plus would be my guess if original and nice. I'm not sure it should have the earlier style plunger by that time. IIRC WRA was the first to change the plunger type and this would be a later 43 gun so it should also be an oval cut stock also. I would have him check the SN again and make sure it is 103xxxx and not 1003xxx.

Hi Dave,
My notes read that WRA used I cut from start to 1,153,591.
Oval used from 1,067,649 to the end of first block.
Thx,
Charlie
