Type 99 barrel diameter difference
I have two Type 99's, one is a No-Series Nagoya, and the other is a 3rd series Nagoya.
The 3rd series has a heavier barrel on it, the barrel and front sight base are flush behind the sight base. On the 0-series, the barrel is slightly smaller than the front sight base all the way back to the receiver.
On the 3rd series, the portion of the barrel to the rear of the front sight is noticeably heavier than the portion of the barrel to the front of the front sight. On the 0-series, the barrel is the same size on both sides of the front sight (slightly smaller than the FSB)
I don't have a pair of calipers at the moment.
I can't seem to find any information about Type 99 barrel diameters online. Anybody have any info?
I'll attempt to get some decent pictures with my old digital camera up tomorrow.
Oh, BTW, this is my first post on this forum. I inherited my first mil-surp from my Grandfather, who brought back my 0-series Type 99 from the war in the Pacific. He served on the USS Pensacola as a firecontrolman and recently passed away.

Pictures of differences

This is the front end of the 3rd series Nagoya. Note how the barrel in front of the sight base is slightly smaller in diameter than both the sight base and the barrel portion to the rear of the sight base.

And this is the 0-series Nagoya. The barrel appears the be the same diameter on both sides of the sight base, with both sides being slightly smaller than the sight.
