Underwood I cut stock

It seems to have been a little slow here on the forum lately. So I went out to the garage to find something of interest to post.

I came up with this stock. Underwood I cut. To bad it has been modified to low wood.

Now an interesting item I think is pretty cool. Something I have only seen a few times is the marking in the slingwell is, Marlin.

But here's a Question for you? No, not a test, fun stuff. On the bottom of the forgrip are three holes. Inside the barrel channel area are three counter cuts. Can you tell me what they were for? Sorry, no prise for knowing. But I think interesting. Hope this isn't too easy and at least makes you think for a few minutes.

Don't know what I am going to do with it, no projects for it. Oh well, back to the garage and into a box.

Dug this out today. Cold and gloomy here today so I've been looking over older posts.
When looking at this picture of your stock...

Is that a Dutched In Patch at the rear of the barrel channel?
Maybe they punched out the hole while drilling for the band spring, thus the repair.
Seen this area repaired often with small plugs, but this is the largest I've seen.
It's an old post, but brought it up before I lose it.

Just a theory on that, but Underwood used I cuts late into production. Could they have had some sitting around and used them when the later acceptance stamps were being used. I mean I cut actually came on a 2.65 Underwood/ Singer gun.

Geeze Charlie, that was a couple of months ago. Tomorrow I'll go find it again and take some close up shots for you.

I really don't have a need for it, that's why it has been sitting around. Maybe I'll put it up for sale on the board. Now to figure out a price.

Dug it back out for better pictures. It appears the band retaining spring might have been a bit too close, and they made a repair. Also noticed some ledges from different depth cuts in the I slot. Here they are.

The different cutting depths was discussed a year or so ago and I think it was determined that was an Underwood characteristic. My "I" cut has the same cutting depth differences.

Seriously, Jim, I agree with Harlan, your garage is like going to Disney World. These were the things our Father's generation used as "cutting edge" weapons of war. Sometimes I just enjoy the "wow" factor!

Leave, I don't know, but maybe time to sell some and enjoy my retirement. You can't hold on to everything forever. Especially with no kids to leave it with.

I know this is a old post, but:
Have been looking for a late UEF and Inland stock, when I ran across a stock being offered on Ebay today.
Seen some holes drilled in it, was wondering if fixing them would workout, then I knew I'd seen those screw holes before.
Gotta say it was much easier to find the Ebay stock than this old posting.

I blew that up to 300% on the sling well and didn't see anything, did you?
