Upcoming SMLE Mk Vs and sniper
I see that at the upcoming Rock Island Auction Regional Sale, there are THREE SMLE Mk Vs. The first is listed in decent shape, listed as mismatched number, serial number A1861. It is lot number 356, one of 4 in that lot (a Commission G88, a Portuguese contract M937 K98
, and an Italian
something or other).

The second is lot number 375, serial number listed as 1280, in with an SMLE Mk III, a No 5 Jungle, a LB No 4 Mk I*, and an M47 No 4 which must be a T as one can see the top of the scope mount and the wooden cheekpiece. No scope with it.

The third is lot number 649, listed as serial number 8205, mismatched bolt, in with a P14 and a SPringfield 1903.

Ordinarily I would bid on at least one of these myself and import into Canada
, but I have two already and it's not worth the hassle for me because they are multi-gun lots. However, for those of you in the US who might want one, could be worth chasing! Bizarre to see three all at once............ all do appear complete with their proper rearsight and barrel bands.
Cheers

Yes, so would I. The problem is the cost of getting the importaion paperwork done up--I hate to pay a couple hundred bucks a rifle to import in a mismatch SMLE. The RIA "Regional" auctions are usually selling off stuff that is not quite considered good enough for their main ones, and they tend to lump guns together. I would like to get my hands on a nice Portuguese contract M937, as I have a 1941, but hard to know the condition of the piece. I have asked RIA for extra pictures and specific condition questions before, and they are esxcellent to deal with in that regard. Honestly, if I didn't already have two of the Mk V's, I would put a bid in on one or more of those lots, concentrating on the Mk V and consider the others "bonus". Having said that, that scopeless BSA Shirley #4 T might be pretty good, or might be one of the ones which apparently never had a scope on them.
Given that there were only 20,000 of the Mk V's manufactured 90 years ago, it's just super-odd to see three of them in one auction! I hope they go to some nice "Milsurps.com"-er.
