M2 Production
Were all Inland Carbines in the last block M2's ?. ( #7,369,661 to ???? ) or could there have been some very late M1
's in that block too ? Have studied the books but can't find a definitive answer. The reason I ask ..... a guy I know has found #7,396,787 and it has a 1 overstamped on a 2. I've never seen this before ! Have only seen a 2 over a 1. Because of the removal of the bayonet lug, I suspect this is an M2 converted back to M1 to comply with the law, and whoever did that has applied the 1 on top of the 2. I'll ask him for some pics of the internals so I can tell. I'd appreciate hearing what you guys think about this. Thanks, Mike.

While the researchers have found that Winchester overstamped some 1's with a 2, the reverse (by a contractor or US arsenal) is not known. The receivers on both posts appear to have been refinished; in the US, possession of either could get you 2 years in federal prison if not registered under the NFA.

David,
You don't like that little blemish on the ring?????
I wonder if an ATF or a policeman would even know the difference. But no reason to take the chance.
There was a higher number, but I think marked M-2.
