Need for hunting, 5 round no.4 magazine?
I would like to use one of my Enfield No.4 rifles deer hunting this year. To do so the magazine can legally only hold a maximum of five rounds. I don't want to permanently alter an original mag so I was wondering if there would be a commercial alternative that functions well. I also thought of plugging the magazine so that it will only hold five but again I don't want to damage the spring. Would plugging a magazine be an acceptable alternative?
Thank you for your time.

I would think the plug would have to be permanent to be legal if your state has a mag cap law. I have a 4 or 5 rd mag marked Santa Fe but does'nt work in my rifle as it's too short for the bolt to pick up a round. We don't have any kind of restrictions on mag capacities here in S.C. so i never worried much about trying to fix it. I think it could be made to work by either grinding the floor plate lip completely off or by milling the lip thickness down some. If your interested in it i'll give it to you for the shipping cost. PM me your cell # and i'll send you some pics. -Tom P.S., what about lever guns that hold 6,7 or more rounds? Are they illegal to hunt with there?

I have a parker hale modified one. I will need to get a permit to export usually a couple of weeks to acquire, you would have to check whether you needed a permit to import an item like that. PM if you are interested.

Well I have just been informed that the law pertaining to magazine capacity now only applies to auto loading firearms so I guess I'm off the hook.
thank you all for the offers of help. Guess I should pay closer attention.

They are out there and I never had a problem with them feeding maybe you should open up the lips to let the rim ride higher.
MJ, don't take this personally, but that's crap.
