Springfield M1911 - Exchangeable Parts
Which parts of the Springfield Armory manufactured M1911 can be replaced by original Colt M1911 parts? Will a SA M1911 barrel fit a Colt slide, will a Colt barrel fit a SA slide? Will the Colt slide fit a SA frame, will a SA slide fit a Colt frame?

I take it you are speaking of the original Model of 1911, in which case all the parts should be interchangeable. Occasionally something like a barrel link may have to be changed to provide proper locking and unlocking of the barrel in the slide.

Thanks for replies. I thought I've once read that not all parts are interchangeable, for example the slide stop should be shorter with the SA M1911. And yes, I was referring to the original Model of 1911.

Colt send twenty Model 1911 pistols to Springfield Armory in mid 1912, and these pistols were used by Springfield to prepare drawings for the manufacture of the Model 1911.
Springfield Armory had to make room to set up the machinery for the manufacture of the Model 1911 pistol, and part of the delay was the installation of equipment to manufacture the Model 1913 Cavalry Saber (the Patton saber), which by that time was as useless in warfare as tits on a boar hog.
