Fortunately, thanks to the newish Forrest Highway, it is now less than a 2 hour drive south, to a club where every second Saturday, all shooters are welcome and the focus is on shooting service and field rifles, regardless of origin/model/providence.
Thanks to a big effort from Ned and others, the number of powered campsites are increasing and the mounds out to 300 metres are well watered.
They are a great bunch. Very forgiving.
They must be, they let me in.
And its not just me as membership is strong and attendence at the November shoot is growing.
To quote one of my competitors...."it's worth the drive south"
Paul

An old Omark however can be had for as little as $150AU and with a little time and thought be presented as a REPLICA trials rifle and used for its intended purpose, SHOOTING. The SSAA has it inclusivity policy right in my opinion because if you allow more types of rifle into a class then you might actually get a shoot off the ground, because there will actually be more people able to shoot in it.
There is an NRA club here in the west that will remain nameless for the fear of having a fatwa imposed that will only allow shooters to use a No1 mkIII* and nothing else and its numbers are dropping rapidly, if you put up barriers for people, don't be surprised if they turn around and walk away. You can keep your purism for the non-shooting collectors who own all the (T)'s anyway, there are some who think the best way of keeping our sport of service rifle alive and well is to keep it accessable. Just my opinion! Fire away.

I'm not arguing toward exclusivity, but when the rules are either vague enough or allowed to be bent enough to permit a rifle with a glass bedded Madco barrel and fitted with a match trigger (the brand escapes me ATM) in sportered woodwork toting a leupold variable scope with a 40 something mm objective lens, three point sling etc into F1 (vintage sniper) class because he wound the scope down to 4x and put a bandaid over it so it couldn't move.
Why would anyone bother bringing a five six or seven thousand dollar artifact... a real sniper rifle, to a competition designed for it, that he has no chance of winning.
I get talked about because I like to shoot these rifles... why are the rules trying to make me use something else to be competitive. I only shoot for fun now... It's my experience that while ever the rules are a little flexible, there will be someone out to take advantage of it. I mentioned before, a match scrutineer should have the power to rule an entry "not in the spirit of the competition".. there was another class he could have shot, Match rifle (or modified accurised) scoped... all it has to be is a military calibre. The class was set up to be inclusive.... look at the classes for AIHPA... they got it right!
BTW, there were 6 No4T's at Penrith a fortnight ago... and I still don't own one...

It's not a new idea, been toying with it since I saw one done back in the 80's.
Son, for me it's just a matter of paperwork and an adjustment of records.
I made up a left hand action and bolt body once, turned out nice, also did a couple of sleeves to strengthen the actions and convert them to flat bottoms for easier bedding, life's simple if you want it to be, my only beef with the idea now would be having to chop up a perfectly good 20rd. magazine to comply with their stupid 10 round restriction.

A dealer sends in a form saying "...please change the registration to indicate that the rifle is a bolt repeater and has a 10 shot magazine..."

I donnt see any medals for the No6 mk1/1.
I think you should send it over to me to rectify that omission.

I apologogse to all for not being as active in this conversation as I probably should have, but the simple fact is I've been busier than the poverbial one armed paper hanger.
I do have some good news though. An introuction to the OIC of the trials program conducted from '73-'78 is forthcoming, complete with pictures from the period.
That should give you some ammo Ned.

Lithy,
Thats great you can chase that up, hopefully finally give some definitive evidence for the case.
Is it possible for some more pics and are you willing to post the results of your interview with the OIC?
I hope I am going in the right direction on this.
cheers and thanks
Ned

Is that it, the fabled Omark 'sniper'.............? In my humble opinion, the rifle might be very good in all it does - as is the telescope, but the mounting system wouldn't last 20 minutes on a good day. I'll take the pics to the ITDU and sniper div later in the day for a second opinion.
