It appears legit, but it is very badly pitted. I think the starting bid is more than its worth.
When they tell you to behave, they always forget to specify whether to behave well or badly!

Were all Inland receivers between #548238 (Mine) and #562633 (Gunbroker), lined out to Underwood, or did Inland use some for themselves ? I've been studying the books but can't get the figures to work. Thanks. Mike.

Mike, if you are counting sequential serial numbers, remember that some receivers may have been scraped after serialization for any number of reasons. That is usually the reason that simple math does not add up on serial counts!

bill, you hit the nail on the head on why i posted this, it was lined out with a chisel, werent they lined out with a machine that made one nice smooth line in one motion ???

That is my understanding. However, I don't know enough about any of the line outs to be 100% sure they didn't have some hungover youngster lining them out with a chisel. 
The rust through is a big issue. Heck, they scrapped them for smaller holes then that.

Between June 1943 and Sept. 1943 Inland sent about 12,000 receivers to Underwood in sets of 2000 to 4000 receivers. This serial number falls in that same time frame. While it looks odd the way the line out looks it could have been someone new just starting out using the machine to do the line outs or maybe the machine was broken at the time and something else used. It looks to be worn about the same as the rest of the stampings on it. With the damage on it the demand for it is going to be very low to say the least but I would bet if assembled into a complete carbine even with the holes in it that it would function properly.

I bet it would function okay also. I often wondered why some of the receivers were scrapped because of the drill throughs.
