    this RIA is or was Nickle Steel, and only surface hardened. likely the reason it cracked after being rusty and or heated.. to check for a straightened barrel, look carefully down the barrel, look for a dark spot on one side of the bore, or just look for a bend, something that doesnt look right..a flat or dark spot half way down is a sign of being bent at one time.

    As far as I can tell by careful study, I think this barrel is fine. No blemishes at all. It is in really good shape. I looked at this barreled action closely and I'm betting with the grinding/wire wheel work this went through and then refinish, whoever put this barrel on cracked it while torquing the barrel. I would bet if I knew the right way to check the action is slightly twisted right where the crack is and not straight.
