i no longer own the Singer, i sold it many years ago to a well known collector from AZ, he has some of my collection, when i cleared out the stable so to speak, he ended up with the Singer, the SA, a few of my trench guns, 3 A4,s all my rare bayonets and military switchblades...and my US property marked M70 Winchester.
i doubt that he still has the pistol, i heard that it was sold at the RIA auction a while back, if it makes you feel better it really wasnt in that good of shape, pitted and worn.
the Mexican 1911 didnt belong to me, but the lady who used to live next doors Uncle was the Chief of Police for a town in Mexico, i took him to our club to shoot, and he had the Mexico Colt..im sure he still has it, havnt seen him or the Colt in 10 years..he owes me a bit of money so i doubt he will be looking to hang out anytime soon.
i did post a picture of that Singer years ago on the old CSP
...i belive you saw it and commented on it and documented the info..original slide and frame but that was about it i belive. i sold the Singer for around 6 grand it went with the package of weapons. i doubt that it would have ever been worth 150K on its best day with a desprate buyer.
in no way was my responce a jab at you my friend,.just to put a prespective on the fact that were talking about an 1903A3...and not a ultra rare collectors piece, i have sold many rare weapons, and bikes rather then shoot them...so i agree, some things are best left to be admired and not shot or raced...lol. new in the box 1918 Colt, unfired Winchester 73, among others..

A Remington Rand 1911A1 is a pistol. From the manufacturer the 1911A1 pistols were not shipped full of grease. The completed pistol was dipped in a medium preservative oil, allowed to drain, and wrapped in an oil proof paper.
These are Remington Rands in the original shipping boxes as sold through the DCM in 1962 for $17.00 each. The paper is not original, but is Brownell's VPI paper to preserve their unfired condition since function fired at Remington Rand.

very nice, the last pistol i got from the guy was in the box as well, repacked im sure, 1918 Colt that was packed so full of grease you could barely work the slide..i kept that pistol for about 6 mos, everytime i opened the safe it talked to me...said....shoooooot me...i sold it and made a bit of money. i have a chance at a Ithaca in the box from a fellow collector, he is after my 41 Johnson, and i dont want to part with it, eventually he will offer the right money and trade, and ill let it go.
those pistols shouldnt be shot...and saved for history...you always share nice examples. thanks for the pics.

Well... The bottom line is this. One or two of these legitimate "like new" condition 03A3's will pop up in response to my post, I'm sure. Personally, I love seeing them and posting back and forth with the owners. I really don't care what those who've owned every rare and valuable firearm under the sun, but sold them years ago... Or otherwise can't prove it, say about the value. If you've owned better, fine. If you sold it, fine. If you only got $750 or $800 for it, you should have kept it. Because the cheapest one I've been able to find that recently sold went for $1450.00. That's a REAL number. Not some crap you pulled out of your a$$ to in an attempt to de-value someone else's collectible firearm because you're jealous or regret having sold yours.

well, your A3 though nice, is not {like new} and someones over pricing and fishing if they are asking 1400.00 and up for a 1903A3... asking and getting are different things.
id be happy to sell you an A3 with no wear, and no rust for 1400.00.. how many would you like..

Yea... I saw that one too. The only problem is there's a big 'ol "OG" stamped on the stock. Since he has chosen to leave the cosmolene on the rifle you can't tell just how much was done to it when it went back through the Ogden Arsenal. It's a bit of a catch-22. Without it being cleaned up you can only call it a "Re-Arsenaled 1903A3". If he cleans it up it won't appear as "NIB". Anyone willing to spend that kind of money... A- Knows this, and ... B- Won't take the chance.

Wait... You said: "id be happy to sell you an A3 with no wear, and no rust for 1400.00.. how many would you like.." How does that translate to me thinking I'm "the only guy with a 1903A3"?... Just curious.
It's OK... Really... I fully understand what you're about. No harm, no foul.
Cheers!

you already have one...no need for 2 right??what would lead you to belive that someone wouldnt have a nice 1903A3 other then yourself? if someone offered stupid money for the couple that i have, id say...show me the money, and buy a few more.
im still scratching my head as to how this whole thread grew into the {rare} 1903A3 and that now they are worth 1400.00 and up?? what am i missing? not being a smart ***, is this a south coast thing? are they really that tough to find in that part of the country?? honestly, i see them at every gunshow in the same shape as the one you have, i buy and sell them all the time...really dont see why thats hard to belive...they made thousands of them...and they arent rare, at least here anyway.. just having an OG stamp doesnt meen the guns been rebuilt, though the one on GB likely has been, it is however in the box, with sales papers, and still in the grease..iv looked at 3 or 4 other A3,s on other forums in about the same over all shape as yours, one even a little nicer. but with a replacement trigger guard, just like yours..he picked it up from a coworker..nice rifle...but 1400.00? really?? you see the same thing on GB and Gunshows as the everyone else, what am i missing? heck iv likely sold over 10 or more 1903A3,s at Colorado Gunshows in the last 7 mos..maybe more if i sat down and looked at my books..and yes, a SC that was nicer then the one you have...sold it for 850.00 and made money on the rifle.
i know of one in the DCM box A3 i can get right now for 950.00 just like the one on GB..but i dont see any meat on the bone, and dont need another A3..
just sold a sweet early 6 groove barreled SC to a fellow forum member about as perfect as youd find, minus wood.. for 500.00.. if theres a place i can sell A3,s for 1400.00 and up...please do tell, im all over it..ill start buying up A3,s and retire... dont take it personal, i think your rifle is nice..couple small issues..but those are easy fixes, trigger guard and a NOS buttplate would do wonders..i have both parts. really id like to see them fetching that kind of money...but i really think sellers are fishing..
as for what im about? i really dont think you have a clue about me, who i am or my history, i have nothing to gain by this, it was only an offer to help nothing more, i didnt offer to buy the rifle cheap to resell, or tell you to sell it cheap...i said my opinion was that it was nice, but shooting it wont hurt that rifles value, as its already been shot, wear on the follower, bolt and bolt face tells me that. trigger guard is not orignal to the rifle, and its been taken down , the buggered tang screws say that, buttplate has some rust...no big deal, new Remington A3 buttplates are still around, replace it.. .this is one of the reasons i dont usually respond to what is my gun worth posts, i look at a real resale value, of what i see sell on line, and at shows in my area. i tell it like i see it..i dont smooth it over to make you feel good or bad about your purchase...i have no clue what you paid for the rifle, and i dont care..its not mine or anyone elses business.
but when you said...your welcome to give an opinion on my rifle...were you really looking for an hoenst openion, or looking for a cheering section?? ill step down off the soap box...

chuckindenver,
OK... Let me apologize for getting off on the wrong foot here. I was really only showing off what I think is a damn nice 03A3 that I found for a bargain... and I do mean a bargain. Maybe it's a Southern thing and maybe it's just how a really nice 03A3 is presented. But I know I could get at least $1200.00 for it with a single phone call. When I was leaving the Dealer where I bought this rifle I was offered $1200.00 from a guy who was there specifically to see this rifle. He had apparently seen it when it first came in before it became available and before the dealer decided on a price, went home and researched it a little and came back to buy it. I have his card. I also haven't "seen" anything in as good condition for sale for less than $1450.00. Doesn't mean they're not out there (Mine certainly was). Doesn't mean I think mine is worth that much (It's not for sale... But I would trade it for a decent Garand
). Doesn't mean they're particularly rare (although I suspect they are... in this condition). If you only hang around Gun Shows and other collectors, of course the value goes down. No one wants to be the guy who paid "that much for that old thing".
I can't dispute anything you've said. I just saw you as one of those dealers who goes around de-valueing other people's stuff. Not to necessarily get it cheap. Maybe just because you've been around this stuff so damn long and seen so many that you've lost your passion and sense of excitement. I've been to enough Gun Shows and Gun Shops to know the type. That may not be you... But it certainly looks like it is. So I apologize if I insulted you or anyone else, or your intelligence. It was not my purpose.
