No.32 Sight - Range and Deflection Mechanism Mk2/1, 3 and L1A1

Seeking help with drawings and dimensions of the drums, locking ring and slippage scale as fitted to the Mk2/1, Mk 3 and L1A1 sights.

I am planning to machine up a set of the above parts to upgrade one of my No.32 scopes.

The starting reference point that I have is An inside view of the Snipes rifle telescope By Peter Laidler

This great publication provides basic details but is lacking of working drawings and dimensions.

Any assistance provided will be appreciated.

I am planning to machine up a set of the above parts to upgrade one of my No.32 scopes.

If you are planning to "upgrade" a No.32 Mk.1 or Mk.2 to the later type of zeroing mechanism, then I would counsel against it. Of course it's your scope and you can so what you like with it but what you will end up with will be, in some people's eyes, a bubberised piece of history.

A better course of action, in my opinion, would be to sell what you have and buy the one you want.

While I'm on the other side of the fence......... Who would know that your Mk2/1 wasn't the real McCoy? After all, what's the difference between an Armourer or Instrument technician changing a Mk2 over to Mk2/1 (yep...., I've done mine and many. many others in service........) and a shooter with the drums to do it?

HOWEVER, be advised that it is not that simple and like most things of the era, it's not just a case of 'old one off and screw new one down'. I won't go into the why's and wherefores here but if you do make a set of drums (make 10 sets and sell 8 sets on.....) for yourself, I'll advise you of the pitfalls
