Amen Peter - it's the tax that makes our fuel expensive. I don't know what percentage of it but it is criminal how they steal money from us and blame it on the oil companies. Good grief - and to think we fought due to taxation without representation and now it's worse WITH representation!
I do wish I had the money to but that Jungle Carbine. It's near perfect but I just can't squeeze it out.
On the reloading issue - with pulled military bullets (Russian
7.62X54R) and surplus powder (Russian 4895 military) I can load pretty cheaply. Perhaps not as cheap as buying the 39 here but I'm not a plinker. I got used to accuracy and have not been able to shed that mantle. And I also have a progressive reloader, years of competition handgun shooting (400 or so rounds per week), makes it fairly cheap and painless.
The magazine could be done by changing the second mags relative angle to the first. And maybe even rolling the back strap a bit as part of it. I've never seen a Bren mag, except in movies, so the LE one would be much cheaper for me. Usually free from friends.
Bottom line I think I am going to have to figure out how to get that Carbine - - it's starting to grow on me!!

Took the AIA out for the third time in little over a week and it is working very well now. No longer have issues with empty cases sticking as the surplus I am using appears to not have any lacquer on it.
Not sure what the ammo is but think it must be Czech
. Other Czech ammo we have has a very heavy coat of lacquer which was causing problems. Using a brass bore brush to clean the chamber very well after giving it a good soaking with Wipe Out. The surplus is absolutely filthy but being inexpensive laborious cleaning is the price I must pay.
Today could hit a tin pie plate at 300 yards on a pretty consistent basis so am thinking it is shooting around 1.7 MOA from shooting first at 100 yards. IF I can do something about trigger pull I think the MOA would improve considerably and the surprising thing today was it shot milsurp about as good a Hornday SP?? Thought it would be much better with commercial but not so, will eventually try some handloads and hope to get it tighter in time.
Very happy with the gun, well built and good fit and finish.
Now the process of trying to wear this one out. Chrome lined barrel so for sure it is going to give much enjoyment.
Forgot to mention that fuel (87 octane) is 129.9 here today.

Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

Don't have an A1A but rather a No4 converted by Black River Armory (U.S.) It uses Roumanian 5 and 10 round single stack AK mags.

What did the conversion involve. Is it fairly painless (read cheap) or involved . Ie expensive.

I have a 7.62x39 AIA M10-A2 that I bought new from my local Savannah, GA USA
dealer several years ago for $600 US. My serial # is M10A-02068XX. It was one of only a hundred or less that were shipped to the US importer TRISTAR of Kansas City,MO before they had a falling out of some sort. I had feeding problems with the AK47 mags due to excessive spring pressure. Clipping several coils off the magazine spring one at a time pretty much solved the problem. I love the quality of the teak stock and the all-new metal parkerized parts, and the included rail scope mount over the action. It is a little heavy for a carbine-length rifle, but it shoots Russian
-made Wolf 154 gn soft points in a 2" or less group at 100 yards using a 9X scope setting from the bench. I understand that the 7.62x39's are no longer made and I wouldn't part with mine for less than $1000. Hope you enjoy your new Enfield!! Too bad AIA never negotiated another USA importer-would love to get one in 7.62x51..

Well took the AIA out again today and you know it will shoot very well considering I am using surplus Russian
ammo. With great concentration I hit "clays" thee times at 200 yards that we had hung with heavy twine. Hit one and then the other twice, took off the right side with one shot and then what was left with the next.
Of course I missed a few times but considering the "clay" has a diameter of 4 1/4 inches I am more than satisfied.
The next distance was 300 yards and I hit a round ball (it is orange and made out of a very hard rubber) that is 5 inches in diameter however missed it countless times. The gun will shoot so close but it is difficult to get a hit. Most misses were to the right and I think part of that is trigger pull but not sure.
Now IF I could only get Peter Laidler
to visit, bring some of his tools and skills and work on the trigger I am sure accuracy would improve dramatically. The trigger is very heavy, feels like you are pulling a concrete building block with your finger. It is smooth enough just too heavy and I am NOT adept at improving it.
Peter should you decide to accept my invitation I know of a great little restaurant that on Sundays has delicious roast beef with Yorkshire pudding. Oh yes and always something good to wash it down. Of course you will stay at my place and if you get bored you can do any improvements you want to my Lee Enfields.
Bottom line the gun is amazing, makes me concentrate a great deal and I sure am happy to own it.
Afterthought, IF anyone has a spare teak cheek piece they are wanting to sell I am interested in purchasing it.

Well the tip from Bindi paid off, I just ordered a cheek piece from Ian. This is such a great site as that item is almost impossible to find in Canada
. Too few rifles ended up here and less cheek pieces.
