    Savage Lee Enfield No.4 Mk1

Im looking into a rifle.. Savage Lee Enfield No.4 Mk1*. Excellent as new condition, never used, still has manufacturing grease in body, barrel and bolt assemblies and matching numbers.

I have attached photos to this thread, the question that im asking is the going price?
the owner is asking $2500.00 is this too much?

    Thanks,
    Volksgranadier.

Way too much! NZicon marked, so it's definitely not "new". Extra nice, maybe, but still! US$400 give or take 200, unless there's something about it otherwise that was overlooked...Subtract a zero and then you would be doing just fine.

Well not too much if the guy is throwing in his 4 year Holden V8.
Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

The rifle is "unissued", not "new." It has never been pressed into service or issued to use in any armed force, at least from what I can see. The stock is perfect with no blemishes or dents. There is no visible wear on any of the surfaces. Remember, these rifles were not coated in suncorite. They had a stove finish that many mistake for parkerizing. Also, keep in mind that the pictures are not the best quality and this might allow for many flaws or re-working clues to go unnoticed .

These rifles were available until about 20 years ago in this condition. I bought one from a dealer at a local gunshow for less than $50. I cleaned it and discovered an "unissued" rifle under dried grease.

Way too much, but things seem to have gone so crazy in the military arms field in the last ten years that the price may not be too far out of line in another 5-7 years.

The rifle is indeed issued........... We can see that it's been issued to the New Zealandicon Army and that it's been marked to that effect! It certainly might look 'unissued' because the NZ Army kept their kit that way and disposed of it after it had been carefully put away in Ordnance Stores for many many years after equally, many many years of use! Prior to return to Ordnance, it was thoroughly overhauled and set in what we used to call 'deep-pres' or to non military types, deep-preservation.

How do I know this.................? I did a load of these and inspected loads more at the huge Ordnance Depot at Ngaruawahia in NZ during the 60's. They were all extremely good but it'd be wrong to say that they were unissued.

I bet if you look under the bridge charger guide, you'll see where we modified them
