In order for more of our site members who don't necessarily frequent this forum, to be able to read it, I've moved it to the more appropriate "The Watering Hole OT (Off Topic) Forum", leaving a permanent redirect link here, so it will always display in both forums with a single thread of answers appearing from both forums ...

Doug

I did my Customs preventive training in 1981 on the Gaelic Ferry which was also laid up in Tilbury Dock in 1981. Then did the advance engine room rummage course in 1985.

Your more than welcome to pop down Lester and see if you can find all the tools that have been lost in the bilges and on the tank tops.

I still have my two long rummage mirrors! Did not hand them in because I am still serving. We had all our old rummage equipment on display at the Crime and Punishment exhibition at the Brewery Museum Romford until a few weeks ago. Due to HMC&E being disbanded in 2005, then the current HMRC, UKBA and SOCA "invented". A lot of the old kit and traditions fell by the way side. If they want to do an official exhibition, they have to ask the staff what they have put away and saved for future use! Officially it all got thrown away.
If you google waterguard ,you will see some of the old Officers have put some interesting stuff on the web site. May be of interest to old seaman.
Thank you for the invitation. Lester
