After half an hour of trying different settings etc I still can’t get a clear, non-reflecting photo of the parts .

The wrist band was simply too shiny and blurred to bother with.

Also the marks on the scope mount – the numbers and the letters “JG” and the location of those letters – if that has any significance.

I did note that the magazine is a match for the rifle!

Yeah mate, I didn’t say Whangavasgas either!

I was Pl Comd B Coy in New Plymouth and then Mortar Pl Comd, Spt Coy in Hawera and then OC in D Coy Palmerston North while serving in 5 WWCT. Still got the collar tags and the Stable belt.

So, for a small country we seem fairly well represented here?!

You didn't have a .303 on TradeMe recently, did you??

I see from Peter’s book on the (T) that the sight on my (T?) was made by W Watson and Son, London. I did a bit of a search on them to see if they still have details about the sight etc – a bit of history on it if you like only to find out they went out of business in 1956! I wonder what happened to all their records?

Can anyone explain the nomenclature: OS 1650 A.

I understand the OS is Optical Sight, and the A probably represents an amendment (modification), but what about the 1650?

OS 1650 A = V5/OS 1650-A = V5 is the VAOS Ordnance category, OS is Optical Stores, 1650 is the OS part number and A is Assembly or SA for sub assembly or GA for General assembly and so on. But I could be wrong

    Next question.........

It's the wartine logo/trade mark of Dalglish of Glasgow the maker. However, while it is the accepoted mark, I and many others believe that it's there and accepted by default and the JG was a quality or control inspector (the brackets left the factory unfinished.....) and those were his initials.
