gas trap
Two questions, is the stock an SA SPG ? and is the front sight original ?

Yes, an SPG (according to Mr. Duff). It is not a large-over-small however and the cartouche is not visible. It's a long-channel and has a scooped clip latch cut. Ther rear handguard is not relief-cut for the op-rod.
The front sight is a war-time replacement that was made in Australia under contract.

gas trap parts
There must have been a fair number of M1 rifles of the gas trap configuration in use by both American and Australian forces to warrant production of gas trap parts such as the front sight. Besides the gas trap front sight, what other gas trap parts were produced in Australia ?

Still haven’t figured out how the "Tapered" clip latch changed to "scooped" the last two years on another forum. Nothing scooped it out; it is a tapered machine cut.
The front sight if from Australia would have to be something originally taken there by a troop around WWII or is newer production made in the late 90's or early 2000. I remember them being sold but forget the guys name right now. He had some real parts and some repopped stuff he was selling. Rick B

Rick, I've heard the tapered also referred to as scalloped.
BTW Dan, that is nice looking trap!

Here's a M1 Gastrap, #29039, which I looked at while I was evaluating a firearms collection. I found out it was a "put-together". I believe it sold in 2006 on RIA Auctions.
