I just bought what I thought was a all matching numbers bring back DOU 44, but turns out it is an isreali K98K that never got converted or stamped, it is all matching but there is a small rack number on the buttstock that is real faint, I guess the fact that it had an isreali sling should have thrown up a red flag. Some of the little markings or waffenamts were peened on top of the reciever and barrell, well just 2 of them, the one right on top of the dou stamp and the one on the top of the barrell, the eagle on the side and serial number is ok. I took the action off and the stock and hand guard matches the rifle as does the bolt and every thing else. The floor plate is un numbered but does have the correct stamp on it as does the cupped butt plate, Wolf von Baumbach who helped S.P. Fjestad edit the mauser section in the blue book of gun values was at a local gunshow helped me identify it. So what Im saying is prospective buyers beware, A $4.50 magnifying glass would have saved me about $500 on this purchase. I was told by the seller the dings were just common marks from rough handling( chalk that one up for experience)Information
