I would still suggest a military district number but for the A on it's side. Is there anything else stamped on the top of action?

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Oh and the A on it's side is not infront onf the barred out number. It is below it just above the U3XXXX serial - which is apparently correct for the year of manufacture. So anyone have any ideas what that signifies?

There is some cream colored paint around the heel of the buttstock and on the butt plate and in between the buttplate and stock.no indication what it was.

Could this '[cream' paint be faded yellow or off white? That might give you some idea of its past.........

since it obviously served in new south wales im convinced its the MD # , i have a 1915 BSA with similar markings served in victoria and has a Z beneath that number ,

did we take notice of the volleys and cutoff ? how about the rear sight ? if this has those bits intact i would snap it up ,
