Why would you get a .22 cal AR?

What is the purpose of plunking down $1000 for an AR in .22LR? Don't get me wrong, I have some nice .22 cal rifles in semi automatic that are fun to shoot so I guess if you have the bucks it would be something to have for sure. In need of enlightenment.

if you want something cheaper to fire than a .223 (5.56x45mm) look into buying an upper chambered in 5.45x39mm which fit in the standard .223 Mags, was comparing the price on bulk ammo and 5.45 was $100-$200 cheaper depending on brand

Just to be clear, the .22 Walther now has well over 5000 through it of all different types/brands and only a few of any type/brand generally had a problem. The kids are having a blast and so far the most expensive part has been feeding them, not the .22.
