Identification Help
I have an Enfield 1917 ShtLE III* and I am trying to trace the history and possibly figure out where it came from. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As far as ownership, the "broad arrow in the D" indicates Australian ownership and the "2" on the receiver ring indicates the 2nd military district.

Your rifle is a Short, Magazine, Lee-Enfield Mk.III* made at the Royal Small Arms Factory, Enfield Lock, Middlesex, England in 1917.
Put kindly, it has been "sporterized".

There's an interesting MKL entry that might help as well ...
