Received my second Liberator pistol yesterday. Somehow the simple and pure design had caught my eye. When putting those side to side I noticed differences in the holes/rivets (hope this is the proper English term). Are there different versions of this pistol? If yes, was this just ongoing development, or different manufacturers?

Just the type of weapon you would expect to be conceived in a room full of psychologists. If you missed with the first shot, it became a weighted object best thrown at your intended target. The military did not receive the weapon with any amount of enthusiasm, and it seems doubtful that any were actually utilized in Europe. It is pretty well documented that some were sent to the Pacific theater, but again no proof of their ever being used.

In the second pic , the one with the extra oil hole is known to collectors as a "4-hole " , the other is a "3-hole ". They were all made over a three to four month period and only by Guide Lamp , a division of General Motors Corp . Guide Lamp made headlight bezzels and such before and after the war , so they were "cutting edge " experts on stamped parts . They were also the WW2 mfg. of the M3 and M3A1 " Greaseguns " .The part you grab to cock the firing pin and twist to load also went through 3 or so changes during mfg. too.

Are there any additional types than the 4-hole and 3-hole version? And do you know any literature on those weapons?

Had they seen more widespread use, we would probably have a full line of accessories for them today.

I do have a book showing the whole line of accessories for the OSS liberator. There were some things... It also outlines the DEER GUN, which I'm sure you're familiar with. Do you know the book I speak of Johnny?
