    12-228 Garand Picture of the Day

    Dale Fetzer

    The Marine Corps saw that he grew up training horses in North Carolina and so was chosen to serve in the war dog platoons. He was given a Black Lab named SKIPPER. The dog was donated to the Marine Corps by a 13 year old girl from Butte, Montana. Skipper was killed in action on Guam.

    The "War Dogs" prevented the deaths of many Marines on the islands. Thank you for the pictures.

    HI;
    Some good information on the "War Dogs" in the book: Always Faithful: A Memoir of the Marine Dogs of WWII
    Also, I have heard the this DVD is good: War Dogs of the Pacific. I just ordered the DVD.

    If you get to know a cat and develop a relationship, he will model to you an interesting and admirable combination of independence, self-containment, dignity, and loyalty. Without the relationship you may never see it.

    My cats work for me, but I work for my dogs on our farm!
    Seriously, the special on the War Dogs of the Pacific is pretty sad if you are a dog lover. I would have a hard time volunteering my dog for war, but many children and families did it during WWII. Shows the pride and since of duty people had back then from the youngest to the oldest Americans.
