That's as close to Texas as I ever got. Almost went to Ft Hood, but lucked out and went to RVN instead.

I would have loved it when they had drive through bars, now that is cool. You could drive down the road with a cocktail. I understand that around Austin it is just beautiful. I like mountains, timber and big rivers.

Pretty girls in Texas. I like your politics too.

I was in Texas a few years ago. In August, and that was a big mistake. Just had bypass surgery and trying to breath in the humidity was pretty darn hard. Gun friendly state no doubt. Took a friend to buy him his first gun. S&W 686. They walk you to the door and hand you your revolver. We put it in the car and went back in. Half an hour later he walked out with a carry permit. I was amazed.
Near Austin is called the Hill country. I saw hills, but no mountains. And didn't see many trees in the Austin araa, at least not like Tahoe. But there were some interesting things to see. One of the first stops for me was San Antonio and the Alamo. I think a must see if you go to Texas. Another place I liked was Fredericksburg. A little town you wouldn't think much about. But it is the home of admiral Nimits. The Admiral Nimitz Museum on the Pacific War was very nice. Showing a lot of arms. Garands, M3 Grease gun, Thompson, 1917's, .45 acps, and our favorite topic some M1 Carbines. And it had great food.

And Dave, ALL states have pretty girls. I'm old, but not blind.

In many ways, Texas is almost as diverse geographically as California. You have the dry, barren Trans-Pecos basin and range area, the seemingly endless Llano Estacado, the humid, green Gulf Coast area, the "Hill Country in the center, and the wooded NE area by Oklahoma and Arkansas.
