thanks peter
the rifle is well worth preserving as is and when i pass on will go to someone who will take care of it.
My blood pressure has returned to normal. Sorry for the rant. I was just at the Vernon Gun show, admiring an original, matching (all matching, every part) Portuguese Vergueiro with a beautiful bore, which someone unfortunately had decided to "pretty up"; the stock had been sanded and varnished with that dazzling "see your face in it' stuff. The wood had been sanded so much the buttplate was proud by about 1.5mm. It's only the second one of that model I've ever seen which is completely matching, so it was a little sad........ Enjoy your rifle, with the no-drill mount.

Cheers
