Irwin-Pedersen is now posted for review and discussion
Hello All: I acquired this IP last year from a local longtime collector when he offered it for sale. He did not know its history. S/N 1,774,10X. 2-43 dated Underwood bbl, with RMC i-cut high wood stock. Just now getting around to posting the pictures. Have a look at the and please comment! I can list all the parts by markings, and post additional pictures if you like upon request. Hope we can all learn something new from this post!

Well one thing I see that is different from the books is the Rock-Ola stock being used by S'G'. The books list the RMC stock only used by IP early on and not S'G' as IP was already using Irwin Roberts made stocks when they lost the contract. How long did this collector you got it from have this IP?

The collector had it 20 or more years, he said. I think he had three (or had three, now has two). It took me forever to talk him into selling one of them. He has been slowly selling off his huge collection, to prepare for retirement. Anyway, a few weeks ago some of you may have noticed me advertising for an IP marked highwood stock. That was because once I started digging into this carbine and checking parts, the stock was not correct per books, and to me it looks like it's probably not the stock original to it. But then I got to thinking that I'm not really sure. For now I've not messed with it further, because a) hard to find stock, and b) the collector will allow me to return it anytime as long as it's not been altered or futzed with.

Books have been known to be in error. That stock is early - it and the gun that was inspected (and accepted) in it, came out of the Grand Rapids plant. Why couldn't it be the original? - Bob

Even if the books are right, they have round off errors. Take the recoil plate off and look for imperfections in machining on the bottom tang of the recoil plate. Then look for a mirror image of those imperfections in the wood. If there the recoil plate is original to the stock. If the recoil plate is an IP-W You can see those letters in the wood under the tang.

Anything is possible but IP received only 1000 stocks from Rock-Ola and that was in December 1942 as well as 100 stocks from Inland. They did make over 3500 carbines before the contract was taken away from them. I didn't find any information that S'G' received any stocks from Rock-Ola.

Thanks so far, as Bruce thinks, I was wondering about the stock too. I doubt it's original to the carbine. I'm just glad to have one of these, I paid 3.5K for it which I thought was less than alot of these I see out there. So if it's not 'dead original' then I guess I got what I paid for (I know that sounds crazy at these prices). And if I get fed up with it I'll return it to the collector....anyway....I just finished putting it together again, but I'll take it apart to check the recoil plate markings if any in the stock. For now I will post some more pictures, with some more questions...(I think these will be questions 'beyond the books')....
First, BOLT pictures. And the question: What significance does the '2' marking have on the lug (see pic #1997)?

Second, Op Slide Pics. The question: There is that '2' marking again (see pic # 1916). Note from previous pictures of the bolt posted, the bolt has the '2' marking on the lug. Are these numbers in any way related or is this a co-incidence?

Third, Receiver pics. Note these markings, what do they mean? (pic # 1895) - M2....(pic # 1900) - marking that looks like an 'E' or stylized E.....(pic # 1975) - punch marks (7 of them)...(pic # 1967) - the 2 marking again. Lots of '2' markings! M2, 2 on both sides of receiver, 2 on bolt, 2 on op slide. Again, coincidence? Or not? Just wondering.....
