its a nice looking rifle , i could be wrong but i think i caught your post elsewhere and noted a couple books for referance , if not :

charles stratton "the pattern 1914 and u s madel 1917 rifles

and his SAIS # 10 - "303 pattern 1914 rifle"

and for added info related :

c.s. ferris "united states rifle model of 1917"
will give you info , mostly related to the later US contracts

i do beleive your rifle is wearing a US M1 sling tho , needs a proper one you know :>}

Thank you for the infromation. I will have to check those out. I did post on the other forum right before they asked us to come over here. When I purchased her she didn't have a sling so cary m2a let me have that one, so therefore she is not correct. But at least he is helping me look for the proper one.

In their current flyer, SOG in Ohio lists a small quantity of Eddystone P!4s for $639.00 if anyone is interested. I got mine at an auction in Greensburg PA last September for $400.00. I don't know how well I did but it is in like new condition and marked "No. 3 Mk. II" on the buttstock meaning it got a new stock to something called a "Weedon Repair Standard" prior to or early in WW@! It ha turned out to be an exceptionally good shooter.

ERA actually means "Eddystone Remington Arms". Remington ran the Eddystone plant.

I have had the luck that I acquired an ERA P-14 a few years back; now I will have the opportunity to acquire a Remington P-14 and a Winchester P-14. A friend has them, and offered them to me.

This almost completes my P-14/M1917 acccumulation. Almost, because the lack of availability of the Savage P-14. I understand they are a rare animal indeed. I have heard of the Savage P-14, never seen one, and I know of no documentation of or for them. Have I had my leg pulled, or what?

I'm afraid so, looked all though my stuff and only 3 companys blt them,the savage co. made the NO. 4 mk 1* for the brits under lend lease.good bit of luck better get them P14s .thats great

actualy thats not quite true , the remington plant was owned and operated by a diferant division of remington than that which set up the eddystone , they opperatyed totaly independent of each other and autonimous as to management ,

JISII - nice rifle , and the sling is properly installed as well as correct ...........sorry , had to make that point as too often they are not ,

no whipping needed , its a decent sling - maybe better than the brits - slap me for that please , i only pointed it out that she might look for a proper one eventualy as she seemed intent on 'knowing' her rifle , id not flame anyone on such , especialy since i once went looking for a rifle for my proper and very nice sling i found , who knopws perhaps her next one will be an M1garand ?
