My father Asks for Nothing
I'm so sorry to hear of a great Man's passing. We have all lost him. The greatest generation is getting smaller and smaller. We must all do what we can to preserve them

Thoughts and prayers are with you!
Lost My Dad a few years ago - we never talked much about his "good times" - or "bad times" in the WWII Pacific - it just wasn't done. When I returned home from Vietnam - He never ask me either! Now all I have to remember are the 4 bullet hole scars and many schrapnel chunks he still carried But more than that - Him!
We will Miss them until it's our turn - then we'll talk.
God Bless.

Thanks for sharing this story.
Don't blame me - I voted for Palin.
"Every Airfield should be a stronghold of fighting
air-groundmen, and not the abode of uniformed
civilians in the prime of life protected by
detachments of soldiers." Winston Churchill.

Thanks Dan.
Very poignant. Dan I enjoyed the article very much. My dad was a Pearl Harbor veteran and one of my cherished memories was when I (as a young sailor) was able to call him from a pay phone at Merry Point Landing (the fleet Landing at Pearl).

God Bless your Father.
I had dinner tonight with MY hero. Omaha beach 6 June 1944.
Made it all the way to Bastogne before stepping on a mine, made it back, raised a family, never wanted to discuss anything until a few years ago.
When I saw the picture of your Dad I did a doubletake, looks so much like my Dad, down to the walker
He was 93 last October, we don't have much time left. He is so proud, mind is sharp, body is cashing in. He wants out with dignity. Soon.
I hope this helps you in some way Dan. It helped me.

O/T but fitting tribute
So sorry to here of _our_ loss. The greatest generation is rapidly leaving us and we must all do everything to protest them and their legacy.

OOPS I meant to say _protect_ not protest. Flunked typing in HS
