I build M1's for a living but I've never built a 308 M1. Just checking to make sure
I'm checking to make sure I have my ducks all in a row. I normally build 30.06 M1
's with .10 short chambers and ream to size.
Barrel swap, gas plug change and the spacer block, to make sure the shorter .308 round feeds smoothly inside the longer .30-06 magwell (told it's optional.)
Uses the same bolt correct?
Oprod is shorter?

Same bolt and if You are using a standard length barrel,op rod is the same too.The Italian
conversions that were made with shortened barrels used the shortened stock, rear handguard, and op rod.

ps,The block insert is mainly there to prevent the loading of the longer 30-06,but as stated,is not required.

How many have you built?
How long have you been making a living at this?
What books do you use for references
Where did you learn your trade?
How booked are you for work

1. You don't need a spacer block..
2. your gas port hole needs to be enlarged (forget exactly how much) to ensure enough gas to cycle the op-rod. (do a google search).

Hugh...if the barrel is 308, the gas port is the correct size already...
