I dunno, but if you want an Allison from a P39 in about the same condition I can set you up!

Haven't been to Duxford in over ten years. Was over at the Fighter Collection getting measurements off of the Tomahawk. Also delivered a few odds and sods. You are not wrong about the "non-show" flying. The pilots are free to beat the place up as they see fit, apparently. Most impressive.

That was a big eye opener JM, the dive, climb and low level passes of the Spitfire were, Like you say Most impressive. The other thing that caught my eye on the way out was the " Haynes Manual for the Spitfire" covered all models.

Still, too funny! The manuals that leave you hanging when the real technical stuff comes up. Chiltons' would be better.

My P40 manuals are huge! Complete with battle damage repair.

I guess they never suffered from many oil leaks JM, that section of Crankcase has its fair share of bolts/studs, any history behind it ? is that battle damage on the side casing and rocker cover or just missuse ?

Recovered from the, at the time. freshly dissolved USSR. Not so much battle damage but rather mostly bored Russians. Having seen wadded up P39 wreckage, the engine would be the last thing to take impact damage. Pilot's compartment is well protected ,too, more than is needed, probably.
