Hey folks, I broke down the bolt tonight. To clean I used Froglube solvent. It is non-toxic and has no smell. With the help of a bronze brush it removed the thick sludge on the parts, which apparently was the original paint and gun oil. There isn't a spot of rust yet, and it looks like the rifle was well taken care of and not used very much. I cleaned up the mag, too, no paint came off, but the dust/oil coating did. I will post some of the pics soon.

Here are a few more pictures. Shortly after these the paint began coming off the receiver, so I will have to find something to coat it wit when I am done, perhaps Ceracoat or Duracoat. Many of the smaller pieces will have to be redone as well since whatever oil was used previously has turned the paint into a goo. The barrel marking is still bright, and overall it looks great where the wood was covering it.

Any ideas would be welcome for the painting.
