The "W in a star" is always applied with two rays up and the single ray down---about opposite of how we are used to seeing five pointed stars displayed.
Assuming "left" in your photo is "up", I would say your star is the same as that shown by the original poster.
I have had nine rifles with the star on the receiver ring and almost all were partial imprints. One of them showed only the tips of two rays, for instance.
All were early 1950s Mk1/2 conversions or FTRs.
The single marked rifle I have now, has a 90% star on the receiver ring and a complete impression on the wrist of the butt.
And we have come full circle back to "nobody knows what this mark is" have we not?
May do photos this weekend, the old ones would not come out of the old computer.
