Resources for finding out information.
A lot of questions get asked on this forum. Some have a simple answer, others require a bit more experience and or research.
For our newer members, there are different ways to find answers to your questions. My feelings are they work if a person has one or one hundred carbines. I get personal satisfaction researching on my own. When I figure something out I get a feeling of accomplishment. But even the experienced enthusiasts gets hung up and looks for help from other sources.
Books. If someone invests $500-$1000 into a carbine they are a very good reference. My Carbine library is pretty extensive.
1. About $20 U.S. M1 Carbines Wartime Production by Craig Riesch. Paperback, 8 1/2"X5 1/2" 222 pages. At gun shows and I saw some on ebay. here is a link.

2. $55-$75 each More money, but the two Larry Ruth books ( War Baby, and War Baby Comes Home) are considered by many to be the best resource out there.

Search feature. There is a search feature at the top of the page. You can type in key works and it will take you to threads or posts relating to same.
Join a Club. One The Carbine Club puts out a newsletter with excellent pictures and articles featuring (in my opinion) invaluable information. It has a Carbine of the Month page, and a members add section. Small investment cost, big return. You can even buy back issues, all the way to issue #1. Currently that is 372 newsletters dating back to the 70's.

The web. Type in M1 Carbine, too much to list.
Sticky Threads, again at the top of this forum. Things that were thought to be important enough for a one button check.
This forum. People here have varied experience. Some have been collecting Carbine's a few years, others since the 60's. Great bunch of guys. Again, using the search feature will show previous threads with questions that just might have the answer you are looking for.
I'm sure there are other resources as well, but these were the first that came to mind. I hope this is of some help.
Jim

When Asking a Question.....
Lets say about your frt sight.....
It's hard to follow up trying to help someone if every question, replies or new questions about that Frt sight end up posted in a New Thread.
Few members have the time to chase through multiple New Threads to gather the info to help. We find ourselves with scratched down notes from multiple replies in New Threads, then trying to figure out which Thread to post the answer in.
Try keeping questions and replies about Uncle Bill's M1 carbine in it's Original Post about Uncle Bill's M1 Carbine by doing so it helps to consolidate answers and make it easier to search for this information via our search modes here later on.
No disrespect intended to anyone.
Just a way to make it easier for us to help you and makes it easier for those members who like to research here on there own before posting questions.

And we do research before posting because we do not want to give out erroneous information.

Sorry. I know I'm guilty of starting new threads. I guess I felt like people wouldn't go back to the old thread once they've been in it a few times. Maybe I'm wrong. I do try and google stuff and what not. Before and while asking here. There just seems like there is so much to learn. The CMP guys say this book is good for troubleshooting and function:
http://www.amazon.com/U-S-30-Caliber...rry+kuhnhausen
I think I've mentioned it a few times and I don't know if anyone has said anything about it.
I will say this, I have about 10 books, I'd like to buy, ammo, research for my Grandpa's Army service in WWII, food, toys, piano lessons, ballet lessons, school materials, heat and electricity, gas, tires, new windows, new kitchen countertop, floors in the kitchen, something nice for my wife, on and on and on and on and on and on.... I know one book isn't going to kill me, but if I ran out and bought a book every time I wanted one, I'd be broke. I am broke. That's the problem. So, thank you for helping a brother out for free. It means a lot to me. Sorry if I've been a pest.

Joking aside, and we like to do a lot of light hearted teasing, no offense meant by it.
Some questions are easily found and answered. Most of the easier ones have already been addressed and can be looked up through the search feature.
Others are more complicated.
Still others are worthy of revisiting for a refresher to some of the more experienced guys as well as the person newer to carbines.
Bottom line is we are here because we have a common interest, and want to share.
