Hey Curt,
Your safety looks to be a converted Type II to Type III safety?
Here's your pic:

It is the first I have had like it, very possible, the two dimples you see are machined in, I had thought the type II would have the dimples machined closer together?

Here's the safety on my Inland. A guy might be able to drag this picture next to Curt's and compare the dimples. - Bob

I'm 100% confident Curt's safety was originally a Type II that was converted to a Type III.
Why else would anyone try changing a Type II to a lesser value Type III?
~ 6-7 years ago I ran across a checkered Type I, that had also been converted to a Type III.
IIRC it was on the ole Jouster
. Someone like ChrisA, RogerM, Marcus, Stu or possibly BQ came forward that had examined other examples.
My thoughts are that after the change over to start milling out Type III's for the more positive locking, that any left over Type I (not yet shipped) or currently being made Type II's were converted to meet the new standard. I would assume there are more examples of the Type II to Type III. When the new standard went into place, it wouldn't have been that big of a deal to mill out the sides, being that the 2 holes on the Type II safeties would have had 2 very small pilot holes drilled out first.
I can't find the notes, maybe lost with my first copy of Warbaby, but am sure these examples are out there and real.
Marcus,BQ, Newscotlander, Bubba or Stu; If you read this please chime in.
Appreciate Your Time,

OK now it makes sense, it's been a few years since I have had a Type II in hand. I 100% am with the story now

I guess what I'm trying to show here is obvious, but thought it might help. I'd never heard of this modification before, but it makes perfect sense. - Bob
