Strange Mark After Nagoya Stamp
Hey guys, a quick question here. I'm not so well versed on the Type 99 so i can't tell what this mark is after the Nagoya stamp. It's shaped like a duck foot. I haven't seen it on any other Nagoya rifles so maybe it's just a nick? Whaddaya think?

It looks like a stamp. And it is in the right position to be a supplementary arsenal mark.

Nagoya Arsenal...Isn't it? 1923-1945. Here's a site that may help you shed some light... http://www.radix.net/~bbrown/japanese_markings.html

It doesn't come close to anything in my book. There are three supplemental arsenals that go with the Nagoya stamp. (Japanese Rifles of World War II by Duncan McCollum)

So...the website I posted is wrong?? Because it's right there...? I don't have the book you refer to.

yeah i have that page bookmarked. None of those supplemental stamps look correct.
Haha, gotta love WWII guns and their mysteries. Maybe this is an unknown smaller factory

Jim,
The website shows the same marks as the book. The Nagoya mark isn't the one in question, it's the small mark after it.

To be honest, it looks like a ding to me too. But, a lot of Japanese marks look like dings and a lot of them don't look like they are supposed to look.

Both of my Type 99's have similar marking in roughly the same position. Mine do not appear to be supplementary arsenal marks either, however, they do both look different from the others shown. Might not be much help, but just for purposes of comparison. It seems like a huge coincidence to have dings in nearly the exact same spot, especially when, at least on my rifles, they don't really look like incidental/haphazard dings. Are there T99's out there without these marks?
Edit: You ought to be able to enlarge my photos to get a closer look.
