L42 Lens Cleaning Brush Container
We all know how rare these are, but I have found these for sale on 'that' auction site that with a little bit of creative work could give you what you want.
Swedish Oil Oiler bottle | eBay
They are fron the US, but are dirt cheap - I ordered one and he kindly threw in a spare for free.
They arrived today and I'm going to have a go at modifying one.
Will post some pics on how it turns out,
Oh and i have an original brush and it fits

are not these containers not about 1/2 the size of the brush container?
I beleive the original brush container is about 28mm in diameter. (the original brush did have a long handle)

You're right Skippy. The originals are 4.5" long and as Skippy says, about 28mm diameter. So good try waccy, but no cigar today!

Someone asked for some why's and wherefores. Here goes. I've already been through exactly what these containers were for originally, the 84mm Anti Tank sub-cal cleaning kits so you're more likely to find them within nations who used the Carl Gustav rocket. They were put into the L42 kit at the request of QMSI Steve Sxxxxxx of the small arms school while he was at the Royal Marines sniper school at Lympstone while they were evaluating the 'new' L42. They didn't like the lens brush being in the L1A1 telescope tin because they didn't carry the telescope tin. Didn't want it in the cleaning kit tin either or loose in the pocket. It had to be kept clean and separate so some of them took to using the Charlie G sub calibre adaptor pullthrough container. The idea took off and that's how it became about and became the last correction/amendment to the contract schedule and thereafter, the CES.
Straight from the mouth of Steve himself! As s someone said once..... Not a lot of people know that!

It's Mike Yarwood's [a TV impressionist of the 1970s] encapsulation of Michael Caine (who never actually said it). He used to give his characters a catchphrase which was supposedly typical of them, though in all/most cases it was something they had not said.
