Peter I am the guy that got Farmer Giles/Cundall the deal in 1997 with the Burmese government. Having introduced him to people on the ground he then went behind my back. No where in his public pronouncements does he mention I got a mission impossible deal to get the government to open up an airfield also used by the military for British
enthusiasts and TV crew.
The so call discovery supposedly took place in 2004. The area of interest is partly under a road used by emergency vehicles to service the airfield. Questions about the professionalism of civil aviation people who approved it come to mind. A bore hole by the way was dug but that was to bring up soil sample. Some wood was in the sample. A picture was taken of the sample and news announced that crates have been discovered. I have been told this by people who were on the airfield on that occasion.
When I was on the airfield, we'discovered' pipes, lumps of iron ore the size of coffee table and on one occasion electric cables buried 9 feet deep to supply the airfield. Cundall and an expert claimed these were Spitfires. Thank goodness we did not use mechanical diggers to dig. All these 'discoveries' appeared on radar screen as objects of serious interest!

These stories keep reminding me of the hundreds of tons of ammunition suppposedly left in Savernake Forest after the huge hidden ammo dump was cleared to take it to France
in 1944. They haven't found any of it yet. THey say that there's two chances of finding any. Slim and none!

Or all the tanks, jeeps, GMC CCKWs, weapons and ammunition buried in the California desert left there by Patton.

Re: Over 60 Spitfires found buried in Myanmar (Burma)
I'm sure there's at least a million dollars worth of WWII surplus buried on my farm. It's right next to a an Army training ground.
I'll sell any of you the rights for ten cents on the dollar. You dig it up, but pay first.

Well, there's no check in my mailbox.
I'll check back after the first of the year. I know you guys are busy. How about 9.5 cents on the dollar?
