12-351 Garand Picture of the Day

War Dog, ca. 1941-1945
"'Mike', the mascot of the Marine Corps recruits in training at the recruit depot on Parris Island, S.C. stands guard under stacked arms as the 'Boots' (background) march off to another class. War is a grim business to 'Mike' who has watched thousands of men transformed from mild civilians to the hardest hitting troops in Uncle Sam's armed forces."

MSGT Rodrigues would never have approved that stack
The rifle on the left should be twisted so the toe is pointing up like the rifle on the right. That would tighten the stack and make it more stable.

Bob, that is funny you mentioned that because although I never have stacked rifles, I looked at that and said that looks horrible.

It's a bit wide isn't it?

Wide
Maybe a tad wide, but not much. When the rifles are twisted so the heels are up, the sights lock on the barrels and you can't pull the legs much wider.

Maybe Mike's just waiting for the rifle's stackers to return to give them a "chew'n " about that stack.
