Welcome to Milsurps.com Robert. Glad to have you with us as a new member. Enjoy!
Three off center? I've seen them worse on original rifles. How does the front sight look in relation to the gas cylinder where it mounts? Is it centered there? Is it left of center also? That is one way you can get the rear sight on the center mark. Be careful however not to start adjusting without pushing some rounds out the end of the barrel. Take it out ad see where it is hitting. You might be surprised

Agreed with Bill, you don't want to start indexing unless you have to. Shoot it first.

The CMP Special comes with a new Criterion barrel, with my CMP Special it takes roughly 24 rds to start seeing a consistent POI after a serious cleaning ( i.e. removing copper). Very accurate, the late type sights are excellent, don't often hear or see someone using a laser bore sight. Here is a link for zeroing.

FWIW, John Garand intended all sight adjustments to be made with the rear sight. In the early days, SA even put a metal seal over the front sight screw to prevent tampering. A zero with 3 clicks of windage adjustment is no big deal. Once you click it on, it just stays there.

Bob, of course you are right and I should have made mention of that. My thought was if the front sight had been moved or was lose and was off center maybe that would be something to check.
