Found a Few Enfield Parts

The boxes on the right are for the "SLEM 7.92mm", or Self Loading Experimental Model, 7.92mm. This rifle was very nearly adopted prior to the adoption of the L1A1, the bayonet was adopted, being the No8. Quite a few of these rifles were manufactured, I can not find the exact figure but it was a few.
I have a pam for the rifle which turn up quite often, this is copy No 139 and is stamped, Chief Inspector of Armaments (something) Heath S.E.3. 11th September 1947.

Other wise known as the SAFN Model 1949. I've had them in .30-06, 7x57, 8x57 and 7.62x51 NATO calibers. They're very nice quality and hold 10 rounds but I I have to admit I prefer the good old M1 Rifle.

Unless someone comes up with the answer after having opened the box, I'd venture to suggest that it is a butt sling bracket. The UK Ordnance VAOS system is strange in that they only identify something as the Mk1 variant, as in BRACKET, Butt, Mk1 if there is a Mk2 version. Prior to the Mk2 version, there was only one, so by definition, it MUST be the Mk1 type and therefore didn't warrant a Mk1 suffix. Think GUARD Trigger. When the Mk2 version came about (for the Mk1/2 rifles) then the Mk1 had to be identified so became the GUARD, Trigger, Mk1

The irony of all those 25 Supply Depot parts is 50 years later the CNo.7 and No.4 rifles issued to Cadets and Rangers are suffering from lack of spares.

Those 7.92mm SLEM parts are very intriguing. Canadian? Hmm? Was this on trial while the FN C1 family was coming to maturity? We need to have someone familiar with the transition between the No.4 and the FNC join the conversation.

I don't think that the SLEM even got into the starting gate. The only contender was the EM series until it was kicked into touch by the far superior L1A1
