With all the milsurp scrap lying around all over the world, it´s a wonder that there aren´t more gifted developers who put their new ideas on classical firearms into practice. I can see no reason why we should be stuck in the original time frame. A good German friend of mine is the best (only?) Luger gunsmith in this part of Europe. Whenever he comes up with anything new, the collecting fraternity enjoys its regular spasm of apoplexy:
