First K-31 was lonely so I added No. two
In a previous post ( K-31 bayonet bargin) I posted my first K-31 purchace. I was so impressed with the quality and workmanship in the first I could not help myself when I spotted three, yes three, at a gunshow this week end on the first table I visited. Not wanting to exaust all my funds before walking around I did so only to return and find two remaining so here is the newest addition to my Swiss family. Serial number indicates 1947 production with a 1947 dated stock and troop tag. I certainly hope at least one troop tag informational search will yield some results.

I took my 1911 to the range today for the first time. It's as fun to shoot as the K31. I have thus far been able to limit myself to one of each version. They are really nice and if I came across one for the right price, I'd probably go for it. They are possibly one of the most undervalued rifles for the quality out there today.

It nice to have more than one to choose from though I wish I hat thought to bring some refrence material to help make a more informed decision. Lots of milsurps at the show. Passed on a No 5 Mk 1 I should have bought and just missed an FR-7 that appeared new. I think I need an FR-7 or FR-8.

I would pass on the FR-7 unless you are going to handload for it. The action wasn't designed for NATO pressures. It was designed for the 7mm Mauser. The FR-8 was designed for the 8mm Mauser so it is Ok for the NATO round.
I made myself a list a few months ago. I decided I just can't collect everything and I need to concentrate on specific items. I know going into a show what I'm after and if it isn't on my list, I don't buy it. It's worked fairly well for me. I'm not going to collect variations, only one of each type. Now if there is a real deal to be made I'll reconsider, especially if the second item is in better shape than my first. Hopefully in that instance I'll have the willpower to trade or sell the first.
I already have some things that I would not have purchased under my new system but I don't think I'll get rid of them. The day will eventually arrive when I have everything on the list and I'll want to start expanding it.
For now, I'm concentrating on WWI and WWII main battle rifles and their bayonets.

Mine as well (and expensive) and currently getting short on safe space. I cannot bring myself to buy a Garand at a show as I know I can drive to CMP south and get a better rifle for less cash. Lots and lots of M1 carbines about but the prices! A bit afaid the gunshow could become a thing of the past so I am feeling a bit of urgentcy to fill the many holes in the collection.

I have been reviewing K-31 scope posts in preperation for the possiable addition of a scope to one of my new K-31s (old eyes you know). Anyone care to offer an opinion of the S K "scout mount" vs the Swiss Products clamp on mount? I an a bit doubious of an off center mount (adjusting zero with windage rather than elevation) and have never tried a "scout " mounting position. Thoughts?

Scout mount won't be good for old eyes. I couldn't use one right now. Focal point in that area that I can't focus without seriously adjusting my glasses. If I get a mount, I'm getting the clamp on Swiss products. Due to the high cost, I have to decide which type I want to get, doubt I'll get one for each of my two types. I could use the mount on either the K31 or both of the 1911 types.

Far sighted so you are probably correct on that. I think I have a long eye relief scope I may play with just to see. The aluminium clamp mount is not crazy high. Read a couple of places it is best to order without rings and use the Millett steel rings. Accumount makes a camoff/on mount with offset rings for mounting over the bore but the mount seem way high above the bore.accumounts.com. I am not sure why the Swiss Products does not use Weaver type rings.
