That picture is not in the ETO, or of paratroopers. It is of the 7th Infantry divison on Kiska in the Aluetiens.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Because those are the early war/pre war blucher pattern boots, not jump boots. They are also wearing artic M41's, infantry web gear, hawley helmet liners, etc......all typical 7th ID stuff from Alaska. Not to mention the "look" of the ground they are standing on....looks like tundra to me. 25 + years of research has led me to be some what sure of what I am seeing. I can not pinpoint the date, or exact unit in the photo, but from what i am seeing, all signs point to that.

Good point about the webbing, I missed the lack of shoulder pads completely. (By the way, I was just asking how you knew that...)

All is good.......you asked a question I gave an answer. Sorry if I sound "snippy", just wanted to get the point across that I have been looking at and studying this stuff for a while.
