Milprileb, give chuckindenver a PM, I dont know if he works on Nagants but he may know someone, he is mostly on the Gunsmithing forum. (you could also try the soviet Rifles forum) am sure there will be someone that could point you in the right direction.

In actual fact the final course of action seems like the best one by far, regardless. The "original" rifle stays original, and the "retired" rifle gets further service as a recreational shooter.

I am very surprised that you are really having trouble finding someone to do this. Surely any good gunsmith is capable of this sort of work. Have you asked many/any in your area? If it's a matter of them not having the tooling and gauges, you might have to pay extra for them to make them or buy them.

If you do find someone, I'd be interested. Tried it and gave up. Not with any sort of real sniper, just a mixmaster project rifle. Wasn't worth getting all involved.

The MN should have a 1" shank with a 16 TPI same as a Win 70 or Ruger 77. Even a Rem 700 take off barrel could be turned down and rechambered to make it 7.62x53R like some of the Finn's .308 bore for more ammo availability if you reload.Harold
